Why we wrote “Not in Our America”
“The song that launched Music for Dignity, created by Rob Shinno, Mitch Michelle and Dark Energy Arcade.”

We were deeply concerned by the lack of due process, violence, and lack of empathy affecting people impacted by ICE enforcement. Rather than stand by, we wanted to use art—and the power of music—to inspire positive change. As a third-generation Japanese American, Rob is especially mindful of his community’s history and the consequences when fear and prejudice are allowed to override civil liberties and due process. Simply releasing a protest song wasn't enough. We wanted the music to produce tangible help. That's why we created Music for Dignity: to raise awareness and provide meaningful support to people and communities affected by immigration enforcement.
